About National Veteran Business Development Council: Since 1999 when the Federal Government established the Veteran Owned and Disabled Veteran Owned Business classifications, Veteran Businesses have been seeking equal opportunities with Corporate America. They have not been included in the Corporate America spend. The single most cited reason is that there is not a national certifying body that they can rely on to provide them legitimate Veteran Owned and Operated companies. In 2010, the federal government spent more than $500 billion. The 3 percent mandate outlined in Public Law 106-50 created a $15 billion opportunity for Veteran Owned Businesses (VOBs). However, 3 percent of the money spent by corporate America exceeds $80 billion each year. Unlike the federal government and its prime contractors, corporate America is not mandated by law to use veteran-owned suppliers unless they are contractors with the Federal Government. The private sector needs and wants a reliable source to certify VOBs and the NVBDCs goal is to provide that service. The NVBDC as the National Certification entity for Veteran Businesses is seeking a seat at Corporate America’s supplier diversity table. They have begun their certification of Veteran Owned Businesses and welcome Veterans to learn more about their program by visiting their web site: www.nvbdc.org
