YouthSpeak Survey to Reach 3.5 Billion People in 14 Days

NEW YORK, NY–(Mar 16, 2016)YouthSpeak, a global youth movement and youth insight survey powered by AIESEC announces its survey focused on raising awareness about the Sustainable Development Goals aiming to reach 3.5 billion people in the world in only 14 days. This indicates the power of Millennials: they are the largest generation after Gen X, and the ones capable of driving meaningful change in the next 20 years. As Ban-Ki Moon, UN Secretary General, said: “Ours is the first generation with the potential to end poverty — and the last to act to avoid worst effects of climate change.” However, in order to engage this generation, it is necessary to understand them, how they see the world, and what they care about; and this is what YouthSpeak powered by AIESEC is trying to achieve.

Last the survey identified that there’s a need for better education systems in the world, as 23 per cent of respondents think it is the most serious global issue, and 53 per cent don’t think their higher education experience is connected with their future goals. At the same time, the survey reported a need to integrate experiential learning, as 68 per cent of respondents prefer this method when learning new skills. Finally, it allowed to discover that millennials are a purposeful generation, and that the triple bottom line approach (people, planet and profit) is critical to millennial evaluations of employers’ attractiveness.

Young people do not have it easy. Not only they are three times more likely than adults to be jobless, but also face an environment, social, and political crisis. But youth are more than victims of poverty and economic downturns — they can be agents of change. They want to be involved in conversations and decision-making processes, not only in their place of employment, but also in their societies. “Youth do not want to be talked at — they want to be engaged in a meaningful way. They should not only be seen as beneficiaries; they should be seen as partners,” Ahmad Alhendawi, UN Secretary General’s Envoy on Youth, said.

World’s Biggest Book, Created by Massachusetts School Children, Kicks Off “Global Peace Tour”

“The Big Book: Pages for Peace” World Tour Begins at United Nations Headquarters in New York City on Sunday, March 20, the International Day of Happiness

NEW YORK, NY–(Mar 15, 2016) – “The Big Book: Pages for Peace,” a massive book measuring 12 feet tall by 10 feet wide, will be displayed for the first time at United Nations headquarters in New York this Sunday, March 20, marking the first stop in a planned 2016 World Tour. “The Big Book” begun in 2004, now weighing more than a ton (!) includes contributions from more than 3,500 notables, including 9/11 First Responders, Nelson Mandela, Jimmy Carter and the Dalai Lama.

“We are thrilled that The Big Book will be on display during the UN’s International Day of Happiness,” said Betsy Sawyer, Founder of the Pages for Peace Foundation. “And even more excited by the prospect of taking this amazing book around the world to spread its powerful and enduring message of peace. This has been the dream of our kids for over 10 years.”

The Big Book began as a classroom project at the Groton-Dunstable Regional Middle School in Massachusetts in 2004 when Ms. Sawyer and eight 5th grade students formed the “Book Makers and Dreamers Club” with a goal of building the biggest book in the world on the topic of peace. From that moment on the Club began soliciting letters, poetry, artwork, photos and even songs in answer to its questions about world peace.

More than 10 years, 1000 student participants, and 3,500 contributors later, the book is now comprised of more than 1000 pages and weighs more than a ton.

After being displayed at United Nations headquarters in New York City, The Big Book will head to the Republic of Korea, where it will be featured at the 66th United Nations Department of Public Information (DPI)/Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) Conference in the City of Gyeongju from 30 May to 1 June 2016.

Study Supports “Counting Parrots” Game: Children’s Counting Abilities in Preschool Affected Their First-Grade Math Scores

The Game Provides Toddlers With the Mathematical Basics They Need

NEW YORK, NY- (Mar 8, 2016) – Counting Parrots, a new educational math app for kids by Yingele, announces today that a research from the University of Missouri supports the educational app by suggesting that teaching preschoolers to actually count numbers, not just recite them, will better prepare them for success in math once they start school. The app is available for download with two versions: free and extended for $5.99 on the App Store, Google Play and Amazon.

Counting Parrots app by Yingele, provides a fun, entertaining rudimentary mathematics learning experience for children ages 3-7. Through the game, children learn to count to 20, associate numbers with quantities, practice patterns and grouping, understand simple equations, and strengthen fine motor skills and memory. Throughout the game, the children have a goal – they must teach the parrots to fly by different counting activities. Each time they play, they get a different combination of experiences, and the games increase in difficulty as they progress through the series.

Louis Manfra, an Assistant Professor in MU’s Department of Human Development and Family Studies says, “Counting gives children stronger foundations when they start school… When they’re counting, they’re performing a more cognitive activity in which they’re associating a one-to-one correspondence with the object and the number to represent a quantity.” Manfra added, “The skills children have when they start kindergarten affect their trajectories through early elementary school; therefore, it’s important that children start with as many skills as possible.”

The research discovered that kids who could recite and count to 20 in preschool had the highest math scores in 1st grade. However, less than 10 percent of the children in the study could count and recite to 20, according to the University.

About M3 Biotechnology, Inc.
M3 is preparing for a Phase I clinical trial of its patented small molecule therapy, MM-201. MM-201 is an orally delivered drug that causes stem cells to differentiate into neuron cells at a rate faster than degenerative brain diseases, such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s, destroys them. During this trial, it is expected that M3 will enter into a license agreement with one of six large pharmaceutical companies to complete the FDA approval process and prepare for commercially manufacturing and marketing the drug. As a disease modifying and feasibly delivered drug, it is expected that MM201 will become the standard of care for patients afflicted with these diseases.

MM-201, with its first-in-class growth actor-activation process and unique small-molecule characteristic, which represents an important opportunity for potential investors as M3 raises the funds necessary to enable MM-201 to move through human trials and to market. The uniqueness of MM-201 is that it is orally available, able to permeate the protective blood brain barrier and thus modify the effects of Parkinson’s disease (PD) and Alzheimer’s disease (AD).

M3’s initial development work has been supported by grants from both the Michael J. Fox Foundation and the Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation, Life Science Discovery fund financial support stemming from the understanding of those foundations of the novel paradigm that M3’s technology represents. This support shows the understanding that M3’s technology could, for the first time in a non-invasive way as compared to Deep Brain Stimulation and other technologies in the pipeline, stop and possibly reverse the clinical course of these diseases. In addition to the life-altering potential of this drug, success would quickly lead to domination in a multi-billion dollar market.

The drug has demonstrated efficacy in numerous animal models of neurodegenerative disease (NDD) including the rat scopolamine dementia model, the aged rat dementia model and the Rat 6-OHDA model of PD.
